Thorsten Altenkirch gained his PhD from the University of Edinburgh. He joined the University of Nottingham in 2000, taking up the role of Professor of Computer Science in 2017.
Moving to the Nottingham area when he joined the university, Thorsten has lived in Mansfield since 2013.

Thorsten is the Vice-chair of Mansfield and Ashfield Liberal Democrats. Thorsten Altenkirch and Andy Rimmer are the Liberal Democrat candidates for Mansfield South in the Nottinghamshire County Council elections 2021.
